Locksmith Clippings and Musings June 2016 by Helen Duval

Security seems to be an ever present aspect of everyday living nowadays with our news feeds filled with stories about tragic events or opportunists taking advantage. As we come to accept a changing world and those with agendas, it is reassuring to discover that specialists in the security industry are continuing to innovate in a bid to help counter those situations.

IFSEC International 2016 is once again opening its doors at ExCel in London from 21 – 23 June, where the key industry leaders will once again be demonstrating new products in safety and security all under one roof.

The show covers all areas of security and fire safety with a whole host of innovators, educators and advisors all vying to show the latest in security for commercial and retail sectors.

Globalstar will be showcasing its extended mobile network on Stand B350 This technological breakthrough is set to deliver a transparent integration between terrestrial mobile networks and Globalstar’s satellite network. The EMN system as well as other satellite solutions will support the security community by enhancing the safety of people and assets.

Thanks to the adoption of soft-switch technology by Globalstar and Manx Telecom, EMN aims to be the world’s first communications service to switch between multiple mobile networks and a DtU (Direct-to-User) mobile satellite network.

With EMN, whenever the signal level starts to fail on one mobile network, the user’s call or transmission will be automatically handed over to another mobile network that’s in range. If no mobile network is in range, the call will be switched to the Globalstar satellite system. As a result, calls and transmissions will successfully reach their intended recipients, irrespective of location.

Security personnel, first responders and remote workers will be able to access EMN using their own Wi-Fi enabled devices and existing phone numbers.

The first service to use EMN technology will be FRAN (First Responder Auxiliary Network). FRAN will enable users to continue making and receiving calls, without interruption, even if one or all mobile networks become unavailable. FRAN will revolutionise the ability of emergency services, counterterror personnel and other members of the security industry to communicate with greater safety and efficiency.
The Globalstar product portfolio includes satellite telephones, simplex and duplex satellite data modems, flexible airtime packages and the SPOT family of satellite trackers now credited with over 4,300 rescues globally.

Another example of how Globalstar technology is used to enhance security is Northumbrian Water Group (WWG), which recently deployed Globalstar SPOT Gen3 devices to enhance the safety of 1,500 employees who carry out checks on reservoirs in remote areas where GSM signals can be unreliable or non-existent.

More at IFSEC this year

Visitors to IFSEC International 2016 can also visit Vanderbilt on Stand G1250 which will be showcasing the latest developments across all three of its product ranges – Access Control, Intruder Detection and CCTV

The exhibition will feature an exclusive preview of Aliro 2, the latest generation of Vanderbilt’s industry leading Aliro access control solution. Building on the success of its predecessor and created alongside external developers, Aliro 2 is suitable for small to medium sized commercial applications, boasting easy to use Internet based software and intuitive mobile features.

Integration with Aperio is one of the highlights in the new feature set of Aliro 2 but the company states that there is much more to come with the new system set to pave the way for Vanderbilt’s future migration strategy.

Vanderbilt’s highly successful SPC intrusion panel will take centre stage on the stand. One of the strongest intrusion product ranges available on the market, SPC has obtained more approvals than any other, both European and further afield.
Vanderbilt continues to develop even more attractive features for this range including its SPC Connect – which will also be demonstrated at IFESC.

Vanderbilt will also be hosting a series of ‘Innovation Talks’ with key partners on its stand throughout the week on areas such as CMS solutions, closed network systems, integration and automation. The short briefings will be provided on request to visitors to the stand at the show.

Joe Grillo, CEO of Vanderbilt, commented, ‘It has been a tremendously exciting year at Vanderbilt and we are looking forward to sharing the results of our activities. In 2016 we will attend all the major trade shows in Europe. I want our customers to see our business as one that delivers on its commitments to be close to our market and our partners.

In other exhibition news Securefast has announced that it will be attending Lockex later this year and promises to demonstrate some high quality, high performance security solutions for the industry.

One of the key products on show will be the latest euro profile security cylinder and escutcheon package which the company considers sets a new benchmark with a 3 star rated security combination that has been fully tested to TS007:2014.
Other products on display will be the CE marked, AEMSF300 electromagnetic shear locks, which combine both security and fire safety. The latest shear lock has been specifically developed to provide a greater level of door security by delivering a holding force of 2000 lbs, which is achieved through the combination of magnetic holding force and interlocking pins.

Fire safety will be heavily featured with the AEMSF300, with the product being fully fire tested to EN1634-1 for 30minute or 60 minute timber fire doors. Panic and emergency exit hardware will also be exhibited in the forms of SCLAK- Bluetooth access control systems, electromagnetic locks, mechanical locks and easy code digital locks.

Any visitors who register at the stand will be entered into a prize draw to win a Securefast Experience day, details of which will be revealed nearer to the exhibition.

Online Education Platform

The online forum is once again proving a winning arena with the introduction of CCTV and digital video online training courses via STAM Interactive Solutions.

For anyone looking to familiarise themselves with the latest video surveillance technology, the 22 hour online course is available 24/7 and provides a concise overview of the different technologies involved in CCTV and digital video.

The course objectives include learning key elements needed for CCTV and Digital Video production including areas such as lighting, picture formation, band width formation. Analytics, HD and video compression techniques are also highlights along side a step-by-step guid on understanding CCTV installation processes.

It’s certainly good to know that there are some great innovations being introduced that will keep us sleeping more safely at night these days.
